Amazon of avant-garde: Liubov Popova (1889-1924) - a famous Russian artist (part 2)

After L.Popova had got acquainted with a renowned Russian painter named S.I. Stchukin, she realized where it is necessary to study painting. So, in the year 1912 she, as an already mature artist, visited Paris. Her "Trees" of 1911 qualitatively differ from early still-lifes and landscapes which she created earlier.

She gone together with Nadezshda Udaltsova, who recollected it later: "Popova and I examined anything possible; we started searching for a studio. We supposed that we would work at Matis, but, unfortunately, the studio of Matis had already been closed. We went to workshop of Moris Deni, met some sitting Indian wearing feathers, on a red background, which frightened us and we run away. Someone told us about studio "La Palette", went there and decided at once, that it was what we needed. It was art of construction, art fantastic. We visited studio once a week and discussed large surfaces, canvas and space building, last achievements by Picasso as well. It was an epoch of classical cubism".

Liubov Popova seriously worked at the studio, spent a lot of hours in Louver. This Russian woman used to live in Paris at a boarding house of madam Zhann. It was a place, where Russian usually stopped and where there was the so-called "Russian table". At the same time Boris Ternovets and Vera Muhina lived there too. Both of them studied sculpture at Burdel.

They say that Liubov Popova used to be a very sociable Russian woman. She made friends with Muhina very quickly and, when having arrived in Paris in 1914, made a trip to Italy with her.

In winter 1914 Liubov Popova worked at V.Tatlin's studio, which was situated in Moscow. 1914 Tatlin arrived in Paris, where he met with Popova. The artist plunged into a unique atmosphere of the Parisian life and art again...
